Nigerian Compass gathered that for months now, the Ondo State Police Command had reportedly been rattled by the increasing reports of robberies being carried along the highways liking Akungba-Akoko and other notable towns as well as robberies in some homes and public places. Since the latest crime reared its ugly heads in that locality, not a few residents had reportedly had course to relocate to more peaceful neighborhoods. Such is the notoriety of the latest risk posed by the robbery by father and son who was alleged to have held the town into hostage.
According to the Commissioner of Police of the state, it was amazing for father and his son to be at the arrow heads of the robbery incidents in Akugba-Akoko and its environs who are currently in police net and assisting us in establishing level of involvement in the series of robberies that had characterized the town in the recent past, as well as help locate their partners-in-crime that are now at large.
Isaac Adedeji, 65, is reported to be the godfather to a notorious robbery gang in the town, of which his son, Oluwaseun Suleiman, the kingpin of the gang is among .
In his words: I am a professed hunter is who also produced guns but not meant for robbery as been speculated by the police all this issue of manufacturing of gun is what I don't really understand now”.
But the Police debunk his claimed of been an hunter alone, saying he suppliers guns, charms and other items that the gang uses in the heinous crimes. Apart from that, Isaac his alleged-of going out, anytime he finds a prey which he intended to rob. Isaac reportedly had been a fearsome personality in the entire Akungba-Akoko Area and his environs. Isaac’s son, Oluwaseun, 25, is said to be a secondary school drop-out having been rusticated from school over acts stealing and robbery of some teachers goods in the school.
It was learn that the bubble reportedly burst on the father and son when the duo was arrested at their house towards the border of the town. In his confessional statement , Pa Isaac denied being a robber or the backer of his son’s gang. But he however did not deny his son being a notorious robber.
According to Isaac Adedeji, I trained as a welder before my health condition could no longer cope with the rigorous nature of the work. After quitting welding job, my father claimed told me to go back into the trade of his forefathers, which is game hunting”.
“I do not know what has come into my son’s head. How can he accuse me his father of being a robber, I am a hunter and that is where I earn my living from,” Adedeji said.
It was a mid drama between the police and the father of the suspect, also debunk police’s claim that he is aiding and abetting robbers, Adedeji continued, “It is not true that I supply guns to robbers. The gun the police seized from my son is the one I used for hunting in the bush. At my age, how can I be a robber at my age?” he asked. But his son, who did not deny being a robber, claimed his father always supplies their weapons and spiritual needs for their operations.
According to Oluwaseun, counters his father claim that his father has never hunted to the best of his knowledge. He alleged that since his father quit welding job, he has taken to robbing people of their valuables.
His words: “I have never known my father as a hunter since I was born. He used to be a welder but he quit that job many years ago. I think the truth must be told here. My father is a robber too and he supplies us with his guns anytime we have operations to do. He also supplies us with charms which we use during operations to protect ourselves.”
Oluwaseun added that “ I always collect the guns with which we rob from my father and that sometimes, will compensate the old man after each trip, He said “nothing is hidden again. I think my father should own up rather than lying. It is a fact that the he supplies us with guns and charms that we use anytime we want to go for operation,”
Spokesman of the Command, Mr Adeniran Aremu said the CP, gave kudos to the officers and men of the command for their efforts at arresting the suspects. The police boss, however, said his men had long been in search for the robbers before they were finally apprehended.
He said investigations are ongoing to apprehend other members of the gang and that once that is done, the suspects would be prosecuted.
